I consider myself a fortunate and happy person, despite the occasional existential crisis. I have strong friendships and a supportive family, and tend to value qualities like humility and compassion over competition and pride. I usually find adventurous and challenging ways to spend my time and, though I still find New York as exciting as ever, I like to get out of the city when I can. I'm especially happy outdoors and I will never say no to a camping trip or a road trip.
For work, I try to find ways to get teenagers to care about the world around them. It's usually rewarding on some level.
I'm a decent cook and also enjoy baking, though that's admittedly more of an experimental hobby. I make a mean chocolate cake and tasty tamales.
My reading, music and film tastes are wide ranging, but here are some that first come to mind:
Steinbeck, Baldwin, Coetzee, Murakami, and Bowles. Nina Simone, Tom Waits, Bob Dylan, Johnny Cash, the Smiths, David Bowie, Talking Heads, Robert Johnson, Leonard Cohen, Edith Piaf, Django Reinhardt, and Nick Cave. Midnight Cowboy, The Graduate, Goodfellas, Eastern Promises, Last Tango in Paris, City of God, Y Tu Mama Tambien, and Do the Right Thing.
Not much into tv, except for my daily addiction to the Daily Show. And I did Netflix the entire series of The Wire in a seriously short period of time.
My Ideal Person:
If you are kind, with a social conscience, it'll be a good start. If you like spending time outdoors, can whip up a good meal and get funky on the dance floor every now and again, even better.
The last great book I read Zeitoun, Dave Eggers
If I could be anywhere right now at the beach in Y Tu Mama Tambien
Five items I can't live without a good music library; a bicycle; passport; a comfortable pair of shoes; butter
Fill in the blank: _____ is sexy; _____ is sexier. A great voice; tom waits'
In my bedroom one will find... books; colors; a mess of paperwork; my two cats; a very comfortable bed
